Master of Science in Engineering Science and Mechanics
- MSESM Thesis Option
- MSESM Coursework Option
- The University of Alabama Graduate School
- The University of Alabama Quest Program
Notice to Graduate Students--starting January
2002, all AE and ESM designated courses were renamed to AEM designated courses.
In almost all cases, the course numbers were not changed. The degree
requirements have been updated to reflect this redesign.
MSESM Degree Description
Engineering science can be defined as an engineering field that specializes
in the development of techniques and methods for advanced engineering analysis.
Mechanics is often defined as the study of the response of bodies when subjected
to forces.
The Department of Aerospace Engineering and Mechanics offers
a Master's of Science Degree in Engineering Science and Mechanics (MSESM)
through traditional on-campus teaching methods. The MSESM degree can be earned by coursework only
or by a combination of coursework and approved thesis work. Most on-campus
students supported on assistantships are expected to complete an approved thesis
on a research topic.
The MSESM degree program offered at The University of Alabama places an
emphasis on three areas of specialization of the engineering science and
mechanics field: (a) fluid mechanics, (b) solid mechanics, and (c) dynamics. A
wide selection of courses is offered in these areas, and courses are offered in
additional areas of engineering science and mechanics as faculty expertise and
availability allows.
